Love
What healthy love actually looks like
Intensity is easy to confuse with intimacy. Healthy love looks quieter, kinder, and much more sustainable.
A lot of popular love stories reward chase, jealousy and grand gestures. That makes for cinema. It is a poor template for a life you actually have to live on a Tuesday evening.
Healthy love is less about being chosen once and more about being treated well repeatedly. It is the feeling that you can tell the truth without being punished for it, and that the other person can do the same.
Safety is the first romance
Before chemistry, before shared playlists, before the perfect trip — there is nervous-system safety. Can you relax around this person? Do you shrink, perform, or constantly decode their mood?
Safety is not boredom. It is the condition that lets desire, humour and vulnerability survive. Without it, people either cling or disappear.
- You can disagree without being mocked or iced out
- Plans are kept, or cancelled with care
- Your body feels less braced after spending time together, not more
Respect is visible in small decisions
Love that only appears during birthdays and crises is not a relationship; it is a highlight reel. Respect shows up in how someone speaks about you when you are not in the room, how they handle your time, and whether they treat your no as information rather than an insult.
A better question than “is this love?”
Ask: “Does this relationship make me more myself, or a narrower version of myself?” Healthy love expands your life. It does not require you to abandon friends, work, dignity or rest to keep it alive. How you talk is usually the first place that expansion shows.
If you are looking for a dating space that values connection over performance, explore VenerationLove after you have read this — not instead of reading it.
